welcome back

Dear Kodiak Families,

Welcome to the 2021-22 School year at WPS Intermediate School!  We are truly excited to welcome all of our Kodiak Students back full-time to our classrooms.  Please know that we are doing all that we can to ensure the safety of our students and staff.  We are committed to giving your child the best experience and learning opportunities we can provide.  Some things will be different from last year and we will still have some requirements to keep everyone safe; more information from our Superintendent Dr. McGeeney can be found on our district website: https://www.wsvsd.org/.  Here is a brief summary of what you can expect:

  • We will be open our full hours for in-person learning.  Class begins at 8:15 and ends at 3:10 every day, except the scheduled Early Release Wednesdays.  See the district website for the calendar: https://www.wsvsd.org/page/district-calendars.

  • Masks will be required for everyone inside the school building and on the bus. Masks are not required outside the building, we will be taking outdoor mask breaks throughout the day.

  • Recess will be by grade level, not separated into class cohorts.

  • Students will be switching classrooms during the day to work with both of their teachers.

  • Lunch and breakfast will be served in both the cafeteria and the gym to maximize space between kids.  Outside seating options will be available while the weather allows.

  • We will have specialist classes (Music, P.E., Art, and Technology/ library) every day.

  • There is no need for daily screening or attestation of health.

We know that the last year and a half has been hard for everyone, and there is concern about what our children might have missed in their learning.  Our first focus is the emotional and physical well-being of each child.  We are planning and preparing a welcoming and fun start to the school year, and hope to support their social needs as well.  We have always used academic screening at the beginning of the school year to assess the needs of our students, and will do the same this year.  We are not ‘behind’, we just were interrupted, and we will meet your child where they are and do our best to help them reach their full potential.

The best way to keep our kids safe at school and minimize the risk of spreading any illness is to keep the whole community safe- please do your part to stay healthy!

Go Kodiaks!
